Cumulative Lebanese Cars Market Grew by 20.72% YoY by September 2026 to 11,404

According to market sources, cumulative Lebanese car market surged by 20.72% year-over-year (YoY) by September 2026, reaching 11,404 cars.

On a monthly basis, car sales decreased marginally by 0.13% to 1,519 vehicles in September 2026 compared to August 2026, likely reflecting a slight decline in consumer demand most probably due to the persistent geo-political tensions that is affecting Lebanon. In such circumstances, people might be reluctant to spend on durable goods. The distribution of cars sold was as follows:

Furthermore, the leading sellers of vehicles in Lebanon were Toyota, Nissan, and MG with number of vehicles sold in September 2026 alone totaled 231, 89, and 80 respectively.

It is interesting to note that in September 2026, the share of non-gasoline cars and SUV (Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid and Fully Electric cars) recorded a total of 538 automobiles (35.42% of total cars sold), distributed as follows:

As oil prices rise due to geo-political tensions that are escalating every now and then, we believe that the share of non-gasoline cars might surge further especially when electricity situation in Lebanon improves particularly with the prospect Qatari project.

Sales of new cars are much lower now compared to 2019 (19,865 cars) before the financial crisis exploded. Currently, the demand for new vehicles is constrained by limited financing options, exacerbated by the lower purchasing power of the people. However, there has been some improvement in the past few years, and recent numbers up to September 2026 show continuous increase of car registrations (11,404) on yearly basis since 2023. This shows that while the market is indeed recovering, it still faces big challenges and is far from returning to its pre-crisis levels.
