BDL’s latest statistics on money supply revealed that Broad Money (M3) decreased by LBP 10,124 billion to stand at LBP 5,758,398 billion ($64.34 billion) by the week ending October 15, 2026. As such, M3 decreased by 5.44% year-over-year (YOY) and by 4.16% year to date (YTD).

M1 contracted by LBP 2,080.23 billion during the week of 9 to 15 October 2026, due to a decrease in demand deposits of LBP 1,251.19 billion and in currency in circulation of LBP 829.04 billion.

In turn, total deposits (excluding Demand deposits) decreased by LBP 8,043.94 billion ($89.88 million), due to deposits denominated in foreign currencies, M3-M2, that declined by USD 96.62 million compared to the previous week.            Term and saving deposits in LBP, M2-M1, progressed by LBP 603.31 billion during the week.

As such, the rate of broad money dollarization increased slightly from 97.674% to 97.695% in the week ending October 16, 2026.

Looking at interest rates, the average rate on deposits in LBP at commercial banks increased from 3.95% in July 2025 to 4.55% in July 2026. Meanwhile, the average rate on deposits in USD at commercial banks increased from 0.06% to 0.15% between July 2025 and July 2026. In turn, the average lending rate in LBP and USD at commercial banks rose in both currencies: LBP loans rates increased to 9.95% from 9.23% a year earlier, while USD loans rates increased to 5.27% from 3.68%.

Analytically, the money supply M3 can be derived from combining the balance sheet of BDL with the balance sheet of banks to arrive at the monetary survey of the banking system. The resulting M3 would be equal to the sum of: net foreign assets (NFA), credit to the private sector (CPS), net credit to the public sector (NCPS), and other items net (OIN). Latest data show that in July 2026, M3 stood at LBP 5,872,361 billion versus LBP 6,148,976.5 billion in July 2025; NFA were LBP 3,167,727 billion compared to LBP 2,423,746.2 billion in July 2025; CPS was LBP 501,926.3 billion compared to LBP 493,934.4 billion in July 2025; NCPS was LBP 2,791,043.5 billion compared to LBP 3,799,037.5 billion in July 2025; and OIN were negative LBP 588,335.7 billion compared to negative LBP 567,741.4 billion in July 2025.
