Port of Beirut: Cumulative Total Container Activity Rose 7.60% YoY by July 2026 to 542,036 TEU

Cumulative container activity at the Port of Beirut rose by 7.60% year-over-year (YoY) to 542,036 TEU by July 2026. Cumulative container activity, referring to cargo loaded onto or unloaded from ships at the port saw a slight increase of 1.22% YoY to 392,955 TEU. Similarly, cumulative transshipment activity, which involves cargo transferred from one ship to another at an intermediate port, increased by 29.23% YoY to 149,081 TEU.

The continued rise in container activity by July 2026 reflects sustained trade flows and the Port of Beirut’s key role as Lebanon’s main trade and transshipment hub. The strong increase in transshipment activity, in particular, supported overall growth, while relatively calmer security conditions compared with earlier months likely helped facilitate smoother cargo handling and regional shipping operations.

On a monthly basis, total container activity declined by 28.13% to 70,399 TEU in July 2026, partly reflecting normalization from June’s stronger activity and continued regional uncertainty. Although the ceasefire largely held during July, ongoing military activity in southern Lebanon and broader Middle East tensions continued to affect shipping conditions and external trade flows, contributing to softer port activity during the month.

Detailed breakdowns of these changes and additional statistics regarding the activity of the shipping companies CMA CGM and MSC are provided below.
