Port of Beirut: Cumulative Total Container Activity Rose 16.27% YoY by June 2026 to 471,637 TEU

Cumulative container activity at the Port of Beirut rose by 16.27% year-over-year (YoY) to 471,637 TEU by June 2026. Cumulative container activity, referring to cargo loaded onto or unloaded from ships at the port saw an increase of 7.81% YoY to 342,318 TEU. Similarly, cumulative transshipment activity, which involves cargo transferred from one ship to another at an intermediate port, increased by 46.78% YoY to 129,319 TEU.

The continued rise in container activity by June 2026 reflects sustained import demand and the Port of Beirut’s key role as Lebanon’s main trade and transshipment hub. The relative easing of security tensions following the mid-April ceasefire likely supported smoother cargo handling and shipping activity.

On a monthly basis the total activity decreased by 2.53% to 73,626 TEU compared to May 2026. This decrease can be mainly attributed to renewed security and regional tensions during June, which likely disrupted trade flows and weighed on shipping activity. Nevertheless, the resumption of Lebanese exports to Saudi Arabia during the month provided a positive development for maritime trade, although its impact on overall container activity was still limited at this early stage.

Detailed breakdowns of these changes and additional statistics regarding the activity of the shipping companies CMA CGM and MSC are provided below.
