Alfa Accelerates Network Development with 93 New Sites: 28% Y-o-Y Increase in Deployment Productivity as Infrastructure Investment Supports 5G Readiness
According to an Alfa press release, “the mobile operator has accelerated its network development roadmap, deploying 93 new sites to date since Minister Charles Hage assumed office as Minister of Telecommunications. The rollout included 47 new sites deployed in 2025 and 46 since the beginning of 2026.
The company said the faster pace of deployment in 2026 represents a 28% increase in productivity and efficiency compared with 2025, reflecting increased investment in network infrastructure and closer cooperation with the Ministry of Telecommunications.
The deployment strategy has been structured around the specific traffic consumption needs of different areas. Approximately 55% of the new sites were established in locations requiring coverage enhancements while the remaining 45% involved replacing or relocating existing sites. 50% of the newly deployed sites are equipped with solar power, as part of Alfa’s sustainability efforts. They extend across a broad geographic footprint, covering Beirut and 23 districts, including Marjeyoun, Zahle, Metn, Koura, Bsharri, Chouf, Jbeil, Bint Jbeil, Tripoli, Keserwan, Tyre, Akkar, Baabda, Zgharta, Rachaya, Nabatieh, Batroun, Hermel, Baalbek, Sidon, Minieh-Dinnieh, Aley and Jezzine.
The new infrastructure is already generating significant network capacity, carrying approximately 47 terabytes of data traffic, or around 7% of total daily data consumption on Alfa’s network. The company said the project comes to address coverage gaps, extend network reach and improve service quality while preparing the network for the future expansion of 5G and artificial intelligence technologies.
As part of the next phase of the rollout, Alfa plans to deploy 20 additional sites by the end of 2026 in areas including Akkar, Baalbek, Metn, Tripoli, Minieh, Beirut, Chouf, Jbeil, Jezzine, Koura and Sidon. These sites are expected to add approximately 14 terabytes of data traffic capacity per day.
Alfa Chairman and CEO Rafic El Haddad said the network development program is part of a four-year roadmap covering both network expansion and the modernization of key systems supporting subscriber services. According to El Haddad, three key subscriber-service management systems have been upgraded this year, contributing to improved service performance and greater flexibility for subscribers. The network expansion and capacity upgrade project is expected to be completed before the end of the second quarter of 2027 and will benefit more than 600,000 Alfa subscribers across Lebanon, El Haddad said.
In parallel, Alfa has deployed 10 Cells on Wheels (COWs), seven of them in the South, to support connectivity restoration in affected areas. The company said the mobile sites have contributed to increasing network coverage in the South from approximately 70% during the war to around 90% currently.
Further capacity improvements are being implemented across the existing network, including upgrades to more than 900 4G sectors through higher levels of carrier aggregation, reaching 4CC and 5CC, as well as capacity enhancements across more than 30 microwave links. These measures are intended to increase network capacity and support faster data speeds”.
